Hugo Pratt Incontri E Passaggi Exhibition In Rome

The 'Hugo Pratt. Incontri e Passaggi' (Meetings and Journeys) exhibition takes place at the MACRO centre until the 24th May (2016). There are over 120 original works, photographs and rare treasures on show. It maps a compelling story of meetings, both imaginary and real, that influenced the father of 'graphic novels'. Pratt was born in Rimini in 1927, he had an English grandfather and he was also related to the actor Boris Karloff. Throughout his life he lived in several countries, including Abyssinia (Ethiopia), France and Switzerland; the latter is where he died in 1995. Pratt's most famous story was published in 1967: Una ballata del mare salato (A Ballad of the Salt Sea), which also introduced his best known character, Corto Maltese. He was well known for combining strong storytelling with extensive historical research in his novels. In 2005, at San Diego Comic-Con's 17th Annual Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards, Hugo Pratt was inducted into the Comic Book Hall of Fame.
